Education
Weyerhaeuser actively seeks to expand the circle of companies and consumers who practice recycling, so we provide both tools and education to help you implement a recycling program at your facility.
How much paper do you use?
Weyerhaeuser offers waste audits for business customers in which our representative will assess your volumes and learn about your specific requirements. We'll then provide recommendations on the most practical approach to recycling.
Your first step in this process is to calculate how much paper you generate each month. After you've done this, contact us for help determining how much money a new recycling program-or improvements to your existing program-might save compared to the cost of hauling and landfilling.
Several different methods are available for calculating your paper volume:
All of these methods produce estimates, so try two or more methods for better accuracy. If multiple methods yield comparable results, you know you're on target. If not, average the different results to get a fairly accurate reading.
Making the Grade™
To provide clarity and consistency regarding our quality specifications for recovered paper, Weyerhaeuser developed the Making the Grade manual, now available in its second edition in both English and Spanish.
Making the Grade provides quality specifications and loading instructions for paper being shipped to Weyerhaeuser, as well as mill and contact information. These specifications help us improve paper machine reliability, increase production rates, and improve fiber strength and ultimately lead to improved finished box performance.
Working together, we can improve the quality of the fiber used to make new boxes. Thank you for taking the time to review Making the Grade and for sharing its information with others at your facility. Please feel free to duplicate parts of the manual and share them with co-workers.
If you have recommendations for improving this document, just contact your mill supply manager listed in Chapter 1 of the manual.
