Western Hemlock

Northwest Hardwoods brand Western Hemlock is manufactured to the same specifications as our alder hardwood custom grades making it a good option for traditional hardwood lumber applications. It is produced from a single species, Tsuga heterophylla, and does not combine other species commonly found in “hem-fir.” Western Hemlock grows abundantly in the Pacific Northwest in both pure stands or among other native hardwoods and softwoods. A plentiful species, over 3 billion board feet are harvested annually in the Pacific Northwest (including British Columbia).

Western Hemlock benefits

• The only hemlock to be manufactured to the exacting NWH standards designed for hardwood lumber.
• Single-species resource reduces variances in product characteristics, commonly found in “hem-fir”
• Appearance grade lumber extracted from logs using NWH proprietary manufacturing process.
• Consistently on grade lumber that is flat and straight
• Lumber dried and conditioned using the same techniques and processes as our western hardwoods (MC 6-10 percent)
• Hemlock is available in 4/4-8/4 and in lengths of 8' & 10' (with a high percentage of 10')
• Lumber is certified to the Sustainable Forestry Initiative® (SFI) standard
