Our Commitment to Community

Committed to running a sustainable and socially responsible business

Wouldn’t it be nice to build a great career, while feeling encouraged and supported in making a difference in the world? At Weyerhaeuser, it’s part of our culture.

Few things promote a healthy business better than a vibrant community, but more than that, it feels good to know you can make someone else’s life a little brighter. And as an added reward, you can develop additional skills that may be useful in your career or in your personal life. That’s why we strongly encourage employee volunteerism through our companywide program, Making WAVES (Weyerhaeuser Active Volunteer Employees).

Making WAVES consists of employees, retirees, and their friends and family members who are dedicated to giving time, energy and resources toward bettering the neighborhoods where they live and work. Many efforts are additionally supported by the Weyerhaeuser Company Foundation, which provides grants to the organizations for which you volunteer. Fueled by this powerful combination of monetary funding and personal involvement, we strive to improve social conditions both locally and around the world.

The following is just a sample of the accomplishments we have achieved through the Weyerhaeuser Company Foundation, direct corporate contributions and employee volunteerism:

  • Donated more than $2.8 million toward disaster relief efforts following Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Rita
  • Provided 300 employee volunteers who dedicated more than 45,000 hours to help repair, rebuild and build new homes along the Gulf Coast
  • Salvaged millions of board-feet of downed timber following the Mount St. Helens eruption, which gave us enough recovered wood to build 85,000 new homes
  • Partnered with Habitat for Humanity, donating $1 million in funding and materials and volunteer labor that helped complete 32 homes
  • Donated 500 global village shelters to the Kashmir-Pakistan border region following an earthquake in 2005
  • Worked with The Nature Conservancy for better conservation planning and sustainable management of biological diversity in managed forests
  • Provided scholarships, grants and other assistance to thousands of students (one-third of the Weyerhaeuser Company Foundation’s philanthropy is focused on education)

As a member of the Weyerhaeuser family, you can be proud to work among responsible citizens and friendly neighbors who care about their work, their peers and the well-being of the people around them. In other words, we put our money—and our actions—where our hearts are.
