Work/Life Balance
Balancing work and personal responsibilities can be challenging, but we know that it's critical to your health and well-being. At Weyerhaeuser, we foster a well-balanced work environment to give our employees resources and time to refresh and recharge.
Following is a partial list of resources available for Weyerhaeuser employees.
Families are important to us. We offer adoption assistance to help offset the cost of legally adopting a child. You are eligible to receive adoption assistance after you have worked for the company at least six months, and the benefit is provided at no cost to you.
Taking care of your well-being and that of your family is an important part of staying healthy. We offer salaried part-time employees who regularly work at least 25 hours per week (15 hours per week in Canada) the same benefits that salaried full-time employees receive.
Balancing work and child care can often be a difficult proposition. It's time-consuming and stressful to find a provider you like who meets your family's goals and fits your schedule. Even more challenging is the need faced by more and more people to care for aging parents as well as young children.
Weyerhaeuser offers referral and information services for adult dependent care and child care at some of our locations. These services help employees locate and evaluate providers of child care and adult dependent care and provide information on parenting and family-related issues.
There are times when taking a leave from work is important. The birth or adoption of a child or a serious health condition could require you to focus more time on yourself and your family.
Weyerhaeuser follows the U.S. federally mandated Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) as well as state-mandated guidelines for leaves. These leaves are generally unpaid and can be used in cases of maternity (which may also qualify for disability pay), paternity, and adoption.
Unpaid FMLA leave also may be available to employees to care for a spouse, child, or parent with a serious health condition. Unpaid personal leave may also be available, depending on the employee's particular work situation.
Today's work culture is more flexible than ever before. To meet the needs of our workforce, we offer flexible work schedules, part-time employment, and job sharing for some positions.
Weyerhaeuser is made up of many separate businesses, from sawmills to sales offices. Our flextime and job sharing opportunities vary by business.
Preventive care is one of the best ways to stay healthy. But sometimes it's hard to find the time and resources to exercise, eat well, and make lifestyle changes. At Weyerhaeuser, we offer Health Connection programs that provide easy, free access to the resources, information, and support you and your family need to stay healthy and use health care services as informed consumers.
Our Health Connection programs include the Personal Health Resources Website, Personal Health Coaching (U.S. only), Employee Assistance Program (Employee and Family Assistance Program in Canada), FreshStart Tobacco Cessation, Worksite Health and Wellness, and Weight Watchers Weight Management Program (U.S. only). These services are designed to help you:
- Relate health and lifestyle choices to the cost of health care, productivity and safety, and overall enjoyment of life.
- Understand how the resources are integrated and complement each other to support a comprehensive approach to healthy living.
- Access resources that can help identify a need to change a lifestyle choice and get support for that change.
Your career with Weyerhaeuser will grow over the years, and you may choose to move to another region to take advantage of the great opportunities our company offers. If your job change within Weyerhaeuser requires a move, you may be eligible for a wide variety of relocation services. Relocation is also available to some new employees who need to relocate from the point-of-hire to a Weyerhaeuser location.
Health care and dependent care flexible spending accounts (U.S. only) are available to employees with salaried benefits and to most hourly employees. These accounts help you set aside money from your paycheck, before taxes are applied, to pay certain medical, dental, vision, and dependent care expenses.
Education is a priority for Weyerhaeuser and one we take very seriously. To help our employees pay for their children's education, the Weyerhaeuser Company Foundation sponsors two annual scholarship competitions for the children of employees. Thirty scholarships to four-year institutions and 20 scholarships to community colleges or vocational/technical schools are awarded each year.
