Despite our commitment to operate in compliance, we sometimes experience incidents of noncompliance. In 2008, our penalties increased relative to 2007.

  2. 2008 data includes facilities sold in August 2008 to International Paper.
  3. $900,000 is the result of a settlement relating to violations concerning the Johnsonburg, Pa., pulp and paper mill that occurred under its previous owners. This facility was sold as part of the Domtar transaction in March 2007.
  4. As part of environmental enforcement settlements, regulatory agencies may allow companies to fund community programs aimed at improving environmental awareness or resources.
