Health Connection
Health Connection was launched in early 2006 to increase personal health awareness among North American employees, to engage them in proactive health improvement activities, and to help ensure the continued viability of the company’s employee benefit plans. Health Connection programs offer resources, information and support to help employees and their families stay healthy, identify specific health-improvement opportunities, make healthy lifestyle choices, and be better consumers of health care services. The objective is to identify and diminish root causes that contribute to poor health and serious diseases, such as depression and unmanaged stress, excess weight, high blood pressure, tobacco use and inactivity.
Many efforts are made to engage Weyerhaeuser people in improving their health, both companywide and at the location level. More than 90 percent of our locations have a certified worksite health and wellness coordinator and/or designated wellness team in place to support on-site activities. Health Connection programs include:
Employees Engaged in Health Programs
Since early 2006, more than 10,000 U.S. employees have taken advantage of on-site health screenings. In the past two years, through a Weyerhaeuser-sponsored program, more than 22,000 flu, pneumococcal, and tetanus immunizations were administered at no cost to U.S. employees and their spouses or qualified domestic partners. In addition, more than 14,000 U.S. employees have completed a personal health assessment online.
In 2008, we introduced the Weyerhaeuser Employee Health Scorecard, which provides on-site wellness teams with location-specific metrics and action-planning tools. This allows more precision in targeting intervention resources for health improvement opportunities unique to each employee population. Our goal is to enhance employee health awareness and engagement through increased use of primary medical care and preventive services, improved compliance with prescribed treatment regimens, better management of chronic conditions, and increased participation in Health Connection programs.
