Capturing Carbon infographicFor over a century, Weyerhaeuser has taken the long view in managing America’s timberland. We were one of the first to regrow our forests and prove the potential of sustainable forestry, and now we’re building on that commitment by unlocking the potential of our working forests to deliver natural climate solutions at a scale that can make a positive impact today.

Our working forests provide a range of natural climate solutions, including renewable energy and forest carbon projects, mitigation banking, carbon capture and sequestration, conservation outcomes and more.

When these solutions work together, the climate benefits scale faster — as in Maine, where our working forest in the Kibby Skinner area supports renewable energy generation through a wind project and removes and stores additional carbon from the atmosphere through a forest carbon project. And as working forests provide these climate benefits, they can also continue supplying timber for a range of wood products that are essential to our lives.

That’s how we are unlocking the full potential of our forests to deliver climate benefits at a scale that truly matters.

Trust, Transparency and Trees: How Weyerhaeuser Showed Up at COP28

At COP28 in Dubai, we gathered with sustainability leaders from around the world to share our vision and advocate for the essential role of working forests in addressing the climate crisis.

A Call for Greater Trust and Transparency in the Carbon Marketplace

The voluntary carbon market is an important mechanism for companies navigating the clean-energy transition, but to work, it must be trusted and transparent.

Making the Case for Forest Carbon Credits at Climate Week NYC

At Climate Week NYC, we highlighted the need for scaling a trusted carbon market and the critical role nature-based climate solutions play in mitigating the worst impacts of climate change.

Our Core Businesses

Forest Carbon

We help companies and other organizations meet their climate commitments by developing forest carbon projects on our land base where we can generate meaningful carbon additionality.

Wind & Solar

We grant easements on our land to reputable industry leaders who identify, evaluate, permit and build wind and solar projects.

Conservation

Protecting areas that have exceptional historic, visual, recreational, forestry or wildlife habitat attributes.

Bioenergy

Forest harvest residuals and lower-value sawmill residuals such as small-diameter trees, tree tops, sawdust and bark can be used as a feedstock in bioenergy facilities to produce renewable energy, an overall low-carbon solution.

Carbon Capture & Sequestration

We evaluate the development of geologic carbon capture and sequestration (CCS) opportunities across our footprint through partnerships and lease agreements with qualified companies.

Mitigation Banking

Our restoration projects provide mitigation bank credits for developers to help meet the U.S. Clean Water Act.
